35th RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Pesaro (ITA)

Competition at the 2017 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships consists of qualifying and final rounds in the following Gymnastics disciplines:

• Rhythmic Gymnastics - Individual competition (All-around and apparatus finals)

• Rhythmic Gymnastics - Group competition (All-around and apparatus finals)

Individual Competition

Rhythmic gymnasts perform with four different apparatus: the Hoop, the Ball, the Clubs and the Ribbon. In the qualification competition at the World Championships, each gymnast performs one routine with each apparatus.

The 24 gymnasts with the highest combined (All-around) score from the qualification round advance to the All-around final, where all four exercises will be presented a second time. The gymnast with the highest total score in the All-around final will be the new World All-around champion.

The eight highest scoring gymnasts on each apparatus in qualification advance to the individual event final with that apparatus, where the routine is performed a second time. Highest score wins.

Group Competition

In 2017, Rhythmic Groups of five people perform two different routines, the first with one type of apparatus (in this case, 5 Hoops) and the second with two types of apparatus (in this case, 3 Balls and 2 Ropes).

The first is done with 5 Hoops, and the second with three Balls and 2 Ropes. The first round of competition serves as the All-around final, where the winner is the Group that generates the highest total score for their two routines.

The first round also serves as the qualification round for the Group apparatus finals, with the eight highest scoring teams with each apparatus or combination of apparatus will advance to the event final.
